The first day after the birth of both of my daughters—particularly my oldest as it was the first—was one of the most exhilarating experiences after 36 hours of truly awful cycles of contractions! My husband and I had decided to not find out the sex of our baby so one of the things that really got me through labor was finally finding out if I had a boy or girl. One thing I truly regret was not hiring a fresh 48 photographer to document life with my baby girl in those first two days. Though I vividly remember the silky green robe I wore during and after birth, the desperate gulps of coke I finally drank post-delivery, the discombobulated steps I took after she was born, and the calm of her face when she hit my chest for the first time, so many moments are gone from my mind. I was hit with some long forgotten memories taking the elevator to the fifth floor into Mount Auburn’s labor and delivery unit for the first time since I gave birth there-- the only time I’ve ever walked through that unit not as a mom to be but a photographer. I absolutely loved every minute of documenting my dear friend's son in his first 8 hours outside the womb. I got to relive some of the magic and excitement that is palpable after a baby finally arrives. Given I also literally only live 4 minutes away from Mount Auburn and have many free hours during the day in between my therapy clients, I’m determined to make myself known as a very local Fresh 48 photographer who can swing by on very short notice to a space that is deeply personal to me!
